. . . is somewhat of an understatement. Books have been my life-long friends, and I've gained in wisdom and learning because of them. Through books I learned how to express emotion through laughter and tears. Books have taken me around the world, into outer space, to the depths of the oceans, and allowed me to understand my fellow inhabitants of Mother Earth. Books have given me new ideas and new arguments for old ideas. And most of all, books have taught me how to think and reason for myself.
Knowledge is power. It is the power you can give yourself to shape your own destiny. When you read a book, don't just read it and put it away. Stop and think about it. What was the author trying to convey? Do you agree with everything in the book? Think about what you disagree with, and why. What you disagree with in a book may be more important than what you agree with. This goes for novels as well as non-fiction. I've learned amazing things from a well researched novel.
As a child, I was fortunate to have been given books and often read a bedtime story. Reading your child a bedtime story each night is a gift you can give your child that will last their lifetime. The first book that helped to shape my life was Robert Louis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses. By the age of four I had taught myself to read from it.
Below you will find my Top 10 List of my all-time favourite books. These are the books that I feel have influenced my life by making me think. I have followed this with a list of my favourite pagan related books. Some of these books are listed in our Cord Studies programs, while others bring new insights into the pagan way of life. The third list is of my all-time favourite fiction from childhood to adulthood.
Remember to read - Knowledge Is Power!
