The Expanded Celtic Cross Spread . . .
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
To begin the Expanded Celtic Cross spread, shuffle and deal out the first ten cards the way you have become accustomed to or use my method. (see Reading Your Deck). Then fan the deck and have the seeker choose three cards using their "psychic hand". i.e. Their non-dominant hand. Take these three cards and fan as in diagram 1.
Begin to read the cards as you would for a regular Celtic Cross, keeping in mind the differences in the position's meanings.

The Meanings of Positions #7 to #10
#7 - What the seeker may be, or should be, concerned or worried about.
#8 - Influences of the seeker's family and friends.
#9 - The seeker's hopes, dreams, and aspirations.
#10 - A choice or decision to be made.
Card #10 is the "pivot" card and is moved to the lower left hand corner of the spread. (see diagram 2)
Do not overlook the importance of this card. The outcome is based on the seeker's decision as seen in this card.
Card #5 is moved left into position over #4 as seen in the diagram.
Card #7 is shifted to the left and numbers 8 and 9 moved down leaving room for cards 11, 12 & 13 to be spread out across the top. (see diagram 3)
The spread now forms a rectangle.
The Meanings of Cards #11, #12, & #13
#11 - Furthers the influences or warnings made by card #5.
#12 - Shows the future and whether the seeker obeys any warnings present in card #6.
#13 - The final outcome based on the seekers choice or decision made in card #10.
The cards are then cross-referenced by comparing #3 to #11. Comparing #7 and #6 to #12 and so on in any combination that the reader sees as relevant.
Warn the seeker that the outcome of this reading, as with any other, depends on their own choices and decisions as shown in card #10, the original final outcome card of the Celtic Cross spread.

I have included one more advanced type of Tarot card reading. The World Predictions spread on the following page. This isn't the type of reading you would give to a seeker, but rather one that is best done in a circle with at least one other person present to assist in the concentration and interpretation.

Predicting Future World Events . . .

Not everyone wants to know the future of the world. Not everyone will want to try doing this spread. It takes courage to do this reading. It should never be attempted with a frivolous attitude.
Not many of you will want to try this reading, but I add it here because I have found it to be accurate. It predicted the Gulf War when we first tried this method in 1985, five years before Desert Storm. In 1997 it predicted an attack on New York originating in the middle-east. As with all readings, the time when something is going to happen, is all but impossible to tell, but we do believe that this prediction concerned the 9/11 attack on The World Trade Center.
As you can see, this can be a scary reading and one not to be taken lightly. When I do this reading I always cast a circle and have another person present within the circle to assist. Two or more people concentrating on the matter within the circle creates a strong psychic force.
I use The Tarot of Frown Strong deck by Leo. (copyright © 1978 Cobwebs Press. Framents of a Great Teaching Series. Esoteric & Occult Productions Limited P.O. Box 35, Putney, London SW15 1QU)
This deck is now out of print and a collectors item, so I suggest that you find a deck that has a Major Arcana that you can relate to for this reading.

It may take a while for you to find the appropriate deck that speaks to you in a political/geographic way. It may be one of the decks that consist of Major Arcana cards only, or it may not. I do strongly recommend that you use this deck for world predictions only. Look at our political/geographical definitions below as a guide for your own definitions for your deck.

Predicting the future with Frown Strong . . .

In the early '80s I was given a deck called The Tarot of Frown Strong. It consists of 22 major arcana cards. My sons and I set about one weekend studying this deck to see if we could unlock its secrets. We had the 22 cards spread out on the carpet when my oldest son saw card #3 as representing United States. With a yelp of glee, his younger brother, spotted Canada as #12 The Hanged Man. We were soon seeing other geographical locations. Over that weekend and many to follow we refined our meanings for the cards. This was our own intuition at work, not what the creator of the deck had in mind, I'm sure. The chart below is the result of that study, and the interpretations we use for the World Predictions spread.

Choose the card to represent your question. Then shuffle the cards in the manner that you find comfortable, or use my method described under Reading Your Deck.
Lay the cards according to the spread above. I prefer to lay them face down until all have been dealt.
When doing this reading I read the cards in their respective groupings, starting first at the left with the positive influences on the matter and then continuing on the right, reading in the negative influences. I then turn the bottom three cards, numbers 9, 10, and 11, over and read how other circumstances and influences will affect the question.
As with all readings it takes practice and you must know and believe in your deck. Use your own psychic abilities. Everyone is psychic to a degree. By using your gift it becomes stronger. Part of the reason will be self-confidence. The reader who believes in their gift, in their meanings of the cards and how their particular deck speaks to them will have success in reading the tarot deck.
Blessed be, Lady Christena
